Challenges in Implementing Solar Roof Tiles in Hérémence Parking Structure

Nestled in the alpine environment of Hérémence, the project faced unique challenges:

Harsh Weather Conditions: Heavy snowfall and high wind loads required a durable and resilient roofing solution.

Energy Efficiency Requirements: The 13.5° sloped roof and 79° orientation needed innovative design to maximize energy output on the large surface area.

Aesthetic Integration: Maintaining architectural harmony while incorporating cutting-edge solar technology.

Sustainable Solar Roofing Solutions for Hérémence Car Park

Edouard Bovier Toiture SA and CB Architectes worked closely with SunStyle AG to build an exceptional solar roofing solution for the Hérémence car park. The roof was meticulously installed with more than 3’000 tiles, covering a vast area of approximately 1’545 m2. To give a sense of scale, this is roughly equivalent to six tennis courts.

The car park’s solar roofing system produces a total output of 250,767 kWp, sufficient to meet its energy demands. It’s roughly able to power 65 households annually as an idea. This sustainable energy initiative is further enhanced by the inclusion of several EV charging stations, positioning the car park as a hub for green mobility.

Durability was a key focus throughout the project. The wooden battens serve a dual purpose: ensuring the even distribution of weight across the structure and supporting its overall resistance to external forces. This careful craftsmanship guarantees the roof’s longevity and performance.

Collaboration among all partners was crucial to the project’s success. Engineers, architects, and contractors worked together to integrate the SunStyle’s solar technology with the car park’s structural and electrical systems.
